Abstract
Posttraumatic disorders are heterogeneous and not uncommonly accompanied by comorbid disorders. In this article the various diagnostic criteria of the International Classification of Diseases 10th revision (ICD-10), the ICD-11 and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5 (DSM-5) for posttraumatic stress disorder and for the diagnosis of complex posttraumatic stress disorder only included in ICD-11 are presented. The importance of the divergent diagnostics for the forensic psychiatric assessment practice are also discussed. The assessment of posttraumatic disorders is a very complex task, especially as frequently not an isolated trauma but several traumata of different quality can also be present.
