Preparation of a novel zeolite Y-stainless-steel wire mesh honeycomb for VOC capture

Zeolite-based honeycomb rotors have been successfully used for VOC capture in various industries due to advantages of low pressure drop, fast response to temperature swing desorption and outstanding adsorption characteristics. However, the high cost and fragile nature of ultrathin ceramic fiber paper used for assembling honeycomb carrier created issues for its commercial applications. Herein, a novel honeycomb carrier based on stainless-steel wire mesh was constructed and zeolite Y particles and ceramic fibers were attached to the wire mesh via dip-coating method. The obtained zeolite Y coated honeycomb exhibited outstanding mechanical strength, easy processability and uniform, tunable zeolite coating. The adsorption of iso-propanol on this zeolite Y-stainless-steel honeycomb was systematically studied and outstanding VOC capture performance, comparable with granular sorbents and zeolite honeycomb rotor, was realized on this honeycomb. The honeycomb carrier based on stainless-steel wire mesh not only simplified the preparation of zeolite rotor, but also led to lower cost and higher durability.
