Thermal Oxidation Of Novel Zr-Ti-Al-V Alloy With High Strength And Toughness And Its Influence On The Corrosion Behavior

Thermal oxidation treatment of novel 47Zr-45Ti-5Al-3 V alloy with high strength and toughness is carried out at 600 degrees C for 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, and 40 h in air. Oxidation film thickness, morphology, phase composition, surface element distribution, microhardness, and corrosion behavior of thermal oxidation samples are tested. Electrochemical properties of thermal oxidation samples are tested in NaCl and HCl solutions to study the pitting corrosion problem. Compared with the substrate, all thermal oxidation samples show better corrosion resistance and pitting resistance. Thermodynamics and kinetics of thermal oxidation are analyzed by calculating Gibbs free energy and performing the oxidation weight gain test, respectively.
