•Description of the first bone tools from the Early Pleistocene site of Cooper’s D.•Description of the associated pseudo-tool assemblage.•Further evidence of association between Paranthropus robustus and bone tool.•Our results suggest that P. robustus had the cognitive capacities to develop cultural adaptation.
