Abstract
Introduction: Gender dysphoria (GD) is associated with several mental illnesses, but in many cases the cause is unclear. patients with gender dysphoria (GD) also suffer from personality disorders and this can put these patients at risk of poorer outcome. This review was carried out to discuss the most recent studies on comorbidity of personality disorders in patient with gender dysphoria.Materials and methods: In order to review related articles, databases were searched with keywords related to the purpose of the research. After reviewing the titles and abstracts, articles with appropriate consistency and content were included in the present study.Findings: Different studies reported the range of 15 to 80% for the prevalence of personality disorders in GD patients. It seems that borderline personality disorder is one of the most prevalent personality disorders in these patients. Comorbidity of personality disorders may have effects on patients' function and their satisfaction from the treatment.Conclusion: Several studies have been carried out on the comorbidity of personality disorders and GD which had inconstant results, but most studies support the idea that personality disorders are common in these patients. More research is needed in the future on the impact of positive psychological care associated with personality disorder in people with dysphoria.
