Abstract
Based on the measurements of zircon ages of tillite in the northwest and southwest regions of Tarim Basin and the chemical index of alteration (CIA) measured by predecessors in this area against the background of field investigation, it is confirmed that there were three sets of moraine rock sediments in the northwest of the basin from lower to upper: Dongqiaoenbulake Formation moraine rock sediment, Dongwu Formation moraine rock sediment and Yormenak Formation moraine rock sediment. In the southwest of the basin, the three sets of moraine rock sediments from lower to upper are: the moraine rock sediment of the Bolong II Formation, the moraine rock sediment of the Bolong IV Formation and Yutang Formation. Both regions demonstrate a correlation with the three moraine rock sedimentary groups found in the Nanhua system of Kuruktag of eastern Tarim Basin, they can also be compared with Kaigas glacial period, Sturtian glacial period and Marinoan glacial period, indicating that the glacial events in Tarim Basin are highly regional characterized.
