摘要
Earth's Van Allen radiation belts provide a natural laboratory for investigating how energetic particles are accelerated, transported, and lost, forming the basis for understanding charged particle dynamics at magnetized planets of the solar system and other astronomical objects. Owing to the multiple satellite missions in geospace, various ground-based assets, as well as the development of the state-of-the-art modeling in the Van Allen Probes era, significant advances have been made in understanding radiation belt electron dynamics. In the present chapter, we review the major physical processes responsible for radiation belt electron acceleration, transport, and loss due to wave-particle interactions, followed by outstanding open questions.
