Abstract
Introduction/Background Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC) is a rare but particularly aggressive form of breast cancer. It represents about 1–5% of all breast cancers. It is characterised by a particular geographical distribution, being described as more common in the region of North Africa, with particular characteristics in comparison to locally advanced breast cancer. The objective of this study is to describe the clinical and progressive characteristics of inflammatory breast cancer within Mohamed VI center for the treatment of cancer, CHU Ibn Rochd, Casablanca. Methodology In a cross-sectional study, covering the period from January 2010 to December 2015, including all cases of inflammatory breast cancer, clinically diagnosed according to the definition of the AJCC (American Cancer Joint Committee). It excluded the tumors locally advanced. Results A total of 57 patients had an IBC, and were taken care of within the Center with an average of 50.2±11.8 years old with extremes (32–90 years old), 22.8% of cases used oral contraceptives, The histological type the more common was the infiltrating ductal carcinoma in 82.5% of cases. The histological grade SBR 3 was the most common in 47.4 of cases. A positivity of the estrogen receptors was observed in 59.5% of cases and of progesterone receptors in 40.5% of cases. Her2 was overexpressed in 50.0% of cases. After neoadjuvant chemotherapy for localized tumors, 64% of patients had a clinical objective response (COR) and 20% had a histological Complete response (PCR). The survival without relapse (SWR) and overall survival (OG) to five years were respectively 44.5% and 27.4%. Conclusion IBC is an aggressive form of breast cancer. It represents 1.7% of cases in our center, with more pejorative criteria in comparison to the noninflammatory Breast Cancer : more youth, more negative ER, more positive HER2, high SBR grade, lymphatic ganglions and The metastatic dissemination.
