Abstract
This paper addresses deblocking problem in JPEG compressed images. A new wavelet-based approach is introduced. By this approach a blocked image is first transformed into time-frequency space using dyadic wavelet transform, high frequencies which result in the block effects are easily located. Then the high frequencies around the boundaries between every adjacent blocks are smoothed using optimal interpolating technique. With the approach, a new deblocking algorithm can be. obtained. This algorithm is simple and easily implemented. Experiments shows the algorithm can improve visual quality and peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) of images.
