Abstract
Conventional laboratory fermenters are inconvenient to handle screening of multiple microorganism strains which complicates the acquisition of quality experimental data and their subsequent statistical processing. The present trend of miniaturization in fermentation screening allows for parallel cultivation of dozens of microbioreactors. The BioLector I microbioreactor system was used to perform high-throughput fermentations with the online monitoring of biomass, pH and DO. The cultivation conditions for viscous broth of Streptococcus zooepidemicus were optimized and the resulting production of hyaluronic acid was comparable to larger laboratory fermenters.
