The obstacle detection is an integral part of autonomous rail freight systems, necessary for the implementation of the EU transport strategy. A novel integrated multi-sensor on-board obstacle detection system for freight trains, developed within the Shift2Rail project SMART, combines different vision technologies to identify obstacles up to 1000 m. The obstacle detection system sensors are mounted into device housing for different evaluation tests in static and moving vehicles. The moving of vehicle deteriorates the quality of acquired data from vision sensors, so it is necessary to design an additional vibration suppression system to lower the vibration levels transmitting from the vehicle to the housing. The paper presents the design of a prototype of obstacle detection system housing and vibration suppression system for obstacle detection in freight trains.
