Never Bite off More than You Can Chew: Report of a Toadfish Choking on a Sea Catfish

We report a choking event involving a Bocon toadfish Amphichthys cryptocentrus and a Madamango sea catfish Cathorops spixii . The sea catfish was lodged into the oral cavity of the toadfish and possibly caused the predator’s death by asphyxiation. This is the first record of a Bocon toadfish preying and choking on a sea catfish, but it is undeterminable whether the predation was accidental or purposeful.
