Synthesis Of Carborane-Containing Carbonates Via Co2 Addition To Epoxides

A new method for the synthesis of carborane-containing carbonates by the reaction of CO2 with the corresponding epoxides was developed. The reaction can be facilitated by an additional hydroxyl group in the catalyst. The crystal structure of 1-phenyl-2-(1,3-dioxolan-2-onylmethyl)-C2B10H10 was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The carborane-containing carbonates can be considered as precursors for the synthesis of advanced heat- and impact-resistant polycarbonates and agents for boron neutron capture therapy.
