Abstract
Background and Aims: APOA2 is the second most abundant protein of HDL and plays crucial role in HDL synthesis and function. Previous unpublished data from our laboratory show that hepatic APOA2 production, in the absence of functional APOE, leads to reduced cholesterol and triglycerides levels, mainly due to VLDL deposition and significantly reduced rate of VLDL triglyceride production. Since APOE is the main ligand of LDLr, we hypothesized that, APOA2 may lead to clearance of TRLs through direct binding with LDLr.
