Dynamics Of Transgressive Climbing Dunes Over Pero District - Cabo Frio, Rio De Janeiro State

The climbing dunes field in PerO District, Cabo Frio - State of Rio de Janeiro, is characterized by longitudinal, barchan and barchanoid features that protrude over urban areas, mountain fronts and coastal vegetation of Pau-Brazil Environmental Protection Area. The objective is to study the burial process resulting from the dunes movement in this semiarid coast segment of Rio de Janeiro State. The applied procedures involved remote sensing techniques, pluviometric data analysis and wind regime. By using the ArgGIS Pro software, version 2.6, three cross sections were defined, corresponding to the most significant fronts of climbing dunes protrudes. An analysis of the spatio-temporal behavior between 1990 and 2020 was carried out. The wind trajectory was obtained by the software HYSPLIT - Hybrid Single Particle Lagrangian Integrated Trajectory (online version), developed by NOAA and by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology. Twelve frequency trajectories, type "forward", were generated, thus one for each month of 2019. The results suggest that the wind regime has a homogeneous distribution throughout the analyzed temporal series between 2007 and 2019. The most frequent variations are found in the quadrants NE-SSE, and the least frequent ones in the W-SW quadrant. Regarding the burial rate of the rear areas, the dune field movement is not uniform. The average movement in Brejo do Matadouro lagoon was 4.7 m per year, and in the vicinity of the mountainous fronts covered by vegetation the average was 0.5 m per year. The knowledge of the processes that are involved in mobile dunes movement and in the burial of urban areas is a relevant aspect for master plans elaboration and the coastal areas management, as well as an indispensable study for mitigating measures implementation.
