Associations of vitamin D receptor rs1544410 polymorphism with type 1 diabetes mellitus risk: Systematic review and meta-analysis

•Results on the association of VDR polymorphisms and susceptibility to T1DM are controversial.•The present meta-analysis investigated this association in EMRO population.•Nine studies consisted of 1618 subjects were included for analyses.•Our data demonstrated statistically significant associations between T1DM and VDR BsmI polymorphism.•VDR-BsmI might provide variable risk for T1DM.
