摘要
•Crack growth in vacuum was measured for 7 alkali silicate glass compositions.•Deviation from ideal brittle fracture is evident and does not follow obvious compositional trends.•Two opposing effects on fracture surface energy are assumed to cause deviation from ideality.•Stress-induced local chemical changes and energy dissipation during fracture causing these effects.
