Abstract
Before formal schooling, children already acquire knowledge about aspects of oral and written language. Therefore, this research aims to verify to what extent activities with literary texts contribute to children's emerging literacy through the application of the emerging literacy scale developed by Saint-Laurent, Giasson and Couture (1998). The activities were developed in a project that involves shared reading and initially, the emerging literacy scale was applied to the participants to verify their level of emergent literacy. Then, moments of mediated reading were developed, and finally, the activities carried out by the students were analyzed, in order to verify whether they presented evolution in relation to the results obtained with the application of the scale. At the end of the research, the students demonstrated that they had more consolidated oral language skills, improved their narrative constructions, went from listeners to storytellers and acquired knowledge about the world of writing.
