Phylogenetic analyses and agronomical characteristics on parthenocarpy in different Cucurbitaceae genera using cross-pollination

•Parthenocarpy induction is investigated by pollination between plants in nine cucurbit genera.•In various cucurbits, only bottle gourd pollens induced parthenocarpy in watermelon.•Parthenocarpy was also induced between plants in different tribes.•Melon and bitter melon did not bear fruit except for self-pollination.
