Association Between Interior Decoration Pollution And Genetic Polymorphisms With Adult Acute Leukemia

[Objectives]To explore the possible relationship between interior decoration pollution, genetic polymorphisms and susceptibility of adult acute leukemia in Chinese Han population. [Methods] A paired case-control study was performed to investigate the prevalence of the risk factors in 96 cases and 96 controls from Jiangsu province. The genetic polymorphisms of 7,metabolic enzyme, receptor and DNA repair genes of CYP1A1C6235T, GSTT1, GSTM1, NQO1C609T, P(2)X(7)A1513C, XRCC1Arg399Gln and XPDLys751Gln were genotyped by PCR-RFLP analysis in peripheral blood DNA samples from 1:1 paired cases and controls. [Results]The interval between completion of decoration and the time of move-in had a significantly different distribution between cases and controls (chi(2)=7.5951, P=0.0059). The mutant genotypes of CYP1A1, GSTT1 and XPD had the significantly different distributions between cases and controls. The interaction between interior decoration history and XPD751 mutant genotype was found to have synergistic effect in the occurrence of acute leukemia with OR 3.793 (P=0.040 4). [Conclusions]The move-in interval <= 3 months after decoration was the risk factor in the development of acute leukemia. The CYP1A16235T, GSTT1null and XPD751Gln mutant genotypes might significantly enhance the risk of acute leukemia. Individuals with both the move-in interval <= 3 months after decoration and XPD751 mutant genotype presented significantly higher risk of acute leukemia than with either of the risk factors.
