Use Of Fruits Fodder Trees In Tropical Farming

The use of tree fruits to feed ruminants, in times of scarcity as well as abundance of forage has been traditional in many pastoral zones. In literature, there is information about the effects of supplementation with forage fruit trees in the production of ovines and bovine; however, studies on the productive response of animals that consume these fruits are still incipient. Results show the nutritive value of these materials, voluntary intake, and daily weight gains in ovines which exceeded more than 50% of non supplementary treatments and there were increments up to 80% in bovines. Likewise, there was milk production which was very similar to that obtained using concentrated food without altering the composition of it. Hence, it become in an alternative in order to substitute importation and achieve green efficient and sustainable productions.
