Abstract
Due to the impact of environmental changes and human activities, the applicability of groundwater and surface water for irrigation has multiple concerns. To quantify Helen's hydro -chemical characteristics and evaluate its applicability to irrigation water, 89 groundwater samples and 10 surface water samples were collected and analyzed. Various methods such as principal component analysis (PCA), stable isotope analysis, and irrigation water quality parameters (SSP, SAR, RSC, MH) analysis have been applied to hydrochemical analysis and its evolution process, and the applicability of irrigation water has been evaluated. The results show that evaporative crystallization, rock weathering and ion exchange are the main reasons affecting the chemical composition of the water in Helen. The Piper diagram shows that Ca and Mg are the main cations in water, while HCO3 and SO4 are the main anions. Nitrate in suburban water comes mainly from soil organic nitrogen and livestock manure. In addition, the main reaction of local groundwater is the weathering and dissolution of carbonates. Water quality is unaffected by fertilizer use and human activity. Plotting the values of conductivity (EC) and sodium absorption ratio (SAR) on the US salinity diagram illustrated that most of the samples fall in the field of C 1S1, C2 -S1, and C3 -S1, indicating low salinity and low sodium water which can be used for irrigation on almost all types of soil without danger of exchangeable sodium.
