Abstract
An inclined-baffle anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) with six compartments was applied to treat domestic wastewater. The hydraulic characteristics of the reactor, the changes of COD removal efficiency, content of volatility fatty acid (VFA) and sludge performance were investigated. As compared with conventional ABR, percentage of dead zone generally increases in the inclined baffled AB, but sludge loss is effectively avoided. Domestic wastewater can be efficiently treated in the ABR, with less impact by the shock of COD fluctuation. The COD removal efficiency reaches about 70%. The content of VFA in ABR increases with the increase of the influent COD. The main component of VFA is acetic acid. The concentration of VFA decreases with the flow. The research shows that A-BR is an economical, stable and efficient technology for domestic wastewater treatment.
