Abstract
By using an instrumental-variable framework for municipality-level data referring to Italy's First Republic (1951-1991), we show that industrialization caused an increase in voter turnout and a very pronounced rise in left-wing votes. (C) 2021 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
