•Nopal cladode flour (NC) with three different granulometry were produced and characterized.•NC with the smallest particle size and highest antioxidant activity was used to produce films.•NC was used as filler and bioactive compounds in starch-based film.•Addition NC into starch matrix provided films with antioxidant activity.
