There has been a great deal of progress in regenerative medicine over the last several years, but scaffolds are still required for tissue construction. Various biomaterials have been studied as scaffold candidates, but no functional scaffolds capable of acting synergistically with the tissue regeneration capacity of the cells and cytokines have been developed. Regenerative medicine for bone tissue is currently in the clinical application phase, but without an optimal scaffold, sufficient results have yet to be achieved. We found that carbon nanotubes (CNTs) promote osteogenic capability, and are currently investigating its mechanism CNTs may be useful as a functional scaffold to markedly increase the bone regeneration capacity of the cells and cytokines
