Abstract
Geographic Information System (GIS) based visualization for prediction of tide and tidal current is implemented to describe vividly the motion laws of the tide and tidal current and to predict their dynamics for disaster mitigation and marine resources management. Taken East China Sea as an example, a 3D numerical model equation is applied to generate regional tide and tidal current with three tidal gauges to demonstrate visualization to the hydrodynamics of both station and regional tide or tidal current. Station and regional tide level, station and regional tidal current in both horizontal and vertical directions, are visualized respectively to predict their changes in the software environment of MapObjects mapping and GIS components. A vector with length and direction is applied to present the tidal current and tidal power in the system. The boundary lines between land or island and sea are available to be overlaid by the system. Thus, it is robust to visualize the prediction of tide and tidal current with the help of GIS.
