Studies have been made respectively to investigate the performance of the composite flocculant in surface water as well as printing and dyeing wastewater. Four kinds of raw materials such as aluminium sulfate, ferric chloride, diatomite and potassium permanganate are used creatively to prepare the multi-functional composite flocculants with the functions of oxidation and flocculation, by adjusting the ratio of raw materials, pH value of water, dosage and so on. Results indicate that optimum efficiency can be obtained with aluminium sulfate, ferric chloride, diatomite and potassium permanganate ratio of 5:2:3:0.07 when dealing with surface water. As for the printing and dyeing wastewater, the ratio of 15: 4: 11: 0.07 are preferred. Compared with the traditional flocculant aluminium sulfate, the composite flocculants, which are easily prepared with low price and wide sources, have higher ecological safety and better treatment efficiency without secondary pollution.
