Ovarian Endometrioma And Adhesions: Suture Vs Bipolar Coagulation
PROCEEDINGS OF THE WORLD MEETING ON GYNECOLOGICAL PELVIC PAIN AND ENDOMETRIOSIS(2006)
Abstract
Laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy for endometriosis is associated with high rates of adhesions. The aim of this study was to compare two techniques of haemostasis in terms of postoperative adhesions. 32 infertile women with a single endometriotic cyst were included in the study and preoperatively randomized into two groups and treated through laparoscopy. In group A, haemostasis was performed by closure with an intraovarian suture. In group B, haemostasis was achieved only with bipolar coagulation. At follow-up, a significantly (p <.001) lower rate of postsurgical adhesions was observed in group A in comparison with group B (30.7% vs. 57.1%). In conclusion, sutures on ovary treated for endometrioma is associated to a lower rate of postoperative adhesions in comparison to bipolar coagulation.
