摘要
The main purpose of adding rheological agent into the coating formulation is to change the apparent viscosity of the coating suspension and obtain moderate flow behaviors of coating system and better water retention in accordance with coating processing. In this study, carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and acrylic acid alkali-swelling emulsion (ASE), which respectively belong to cellulosic thickener and non-associated thickener because of their differences properties and thicken mechanism, were utilized to improve the rheological behaviors of paper coating suspension. The experimental results demonstrated that both regents have totally dissimilar influences on rheological modification of coating system. In particular, the impacts of CIVIC on the apparent viscosities of the bottom layer coating color for white board had been evaluated. The coating colors had remarkably shear-thinning properties at lower dosage of CMC (0.4pph). Obviously, CMC contributed to retain grate fluidity. Moreover, based on the top layer coating color, compared with CMC, acrylic acid alkali-swelling emulsion could contribute to apparent viscosity increase remarkably under low-mid shear rate ranging from 10(1)s(-1) to 10(3)s(-1). However, when the shear rate was above 10(3)s(-1), the apparent viscosity decreased more significantly with the increasing shear rate, which is of more interest for practical application.
