Abstract
The load distribution on the soil surface and the principal stress in the soil symmetry axis were studied when the normal force was acted on the cylindrical rigid body. The relationship between the distributed load and the distance from specified point to circumventer in the circular area of the soil surface was deduced based on the basic elastic theory. As the symmetry of the soil's displacement and stress along vertical direction, the stress on the soil surface that induced by the normal force was determined by the principle of the first stress tensor invariant. The analysis shows that the principal stress in the symmetry axis of the soil is obtained according to the principle of superposition based on the stress derivation. The research is helpful for the calculation of the pile foundation displacement and the foundation settlement.
