Protection of forest and protection of stands - a retrospective look

The study analyzes the available literature published in 'Sylwan' relating to the problem of forest protection against insects and parasitic fungi occurring both in managed stands and in protected forests in Poland. The rich publishing output of the 'Sylwan' journal, contained in the 200-year history of its existence, was used. Against the background of historical, political and economic changes, attention was paid to the threats, methods of combating them and the preventive measures used in different periods in managed stands, and national parks and reserves, as well.
