Abstract
This paper, mainly focuseing on the cracking problem of concrete structures, researches on the biaxial tensile strength of common cement concrete, and discusses its application. The biaxial tensile instrument is used for experimental study. The result is that the uniaxial tensile strength of common cement concrete possesses 40%similar to 48% of its flexural strength, and the biaxial tensile strength of common cement concrete is about 20%similar to 30% lower than its uniaxial tensile strength, which is called biaxial tensile strength weakening effect. The ANSYS software is used to calculate the biaxial tensile stress and its distribution of a specific cement concrete pavement under vehicle loads. It is suggested that the biaxial tensile strength be used as the checking standard of pavement thickness design. This kind of weakening effect is significant for designs of large-span beam, plate and shell structures under extreme loads or harsh environments, which is worth in-depth research.
