Abstract
Electrostatic potentials are essentially utilized in tandem mirror plasma confinement, while high plasma confinement modes including an H mode originally found in the ASDEX tokamak as well as an upgraded VH mode in the DIII-D tokamak are physically related to potential formation in their peripheral regions. The present manuscript gives information on the potential fundamentals in the GAMMA 10 tandem mirror, and provides a preliminary performance of H-mode data in DIII-D using newly installed semiconductor x-ray detectors collaborated with the GAMMA 10 x-ray group. Our newly finding physics principles in semiconductor x-ray detector responses are applied to those in GAMMA 10, ASDEX Upgrade, as well as DIII-D along with the generalized physics interpretations.
