Abstract
Modern pacing leads use steroid to reduce inflammatory reactions after lead implantation. The aim of this multicentre clinical study was to investigate the differences in the electrical properties between two 3.5 mm?, unipolar, passive fixation pacing leads with and without steroid, Both leads models have the same physical dimensions. In total 96 patients received either lead 1450 (steroid) or 1451 (nonsteroid) in randomised order, The patients were followed-up for 18 month. It could be shown that threshold values are significantly lower for the steroid lead compared to the nonsteroid lead of the same type, Both leads show good and stable threshold values (mean 0.5 V for 1450 and 0,6 V for 1451)and sensing properties (mean R wave amplitude: 12.5 for 1450 and 12.4 for 1451).
