Abstract
The southern region of Guizhou Province is a typical karst mountainous region in China. The ecological environment is fragile and biodiversity is extremely vulnerable. Based on the previous research results and the actual physical and geographical conditions and biodiversity characteristics of southern Guizhou, a biodiversity evaluation index system with 9 primary indicators and 25 secondary indicators was designed, including species number, endemic species, endangered species, important resource species, diversity of ecosystem types, protected area coverage, alien species invasion, vegetation damage, and the integrity of the vertical spectrum of the vegetation. Based on the actual physical geographic conditions and collected data, the comprehensive evaluation of the biodiversity in the southern area of Guizhou Province was carried out using six primary indicators in counties (districts, cities) scale. The evaluation results show that the areas with better biodiversity are mainly concentrated in the lower mountainous areas in the southeast, and the areas with poorer biodiversity are mainly concentrated in the west with more severe rocky desertification. Libo County of the Qiannan Prefecture has the best biodiversity while Zhenfeng County of the Qianxinan Prefecture has the worst biodiversity. On the whole, the biodiversity of the southern Guizhou Province is good.. The counties with a "mediocre" review accounted for the highest proportion, reaching 41.67%, followed by "good" and "excellent", accounting for 33.33% and 13.89% of the total counties, respectively. There were no counties with a "poor" biodiversity evaluation.
