Abstract
A great part of the earth surface, particularly in tropical regions, is covered by thick lateritic formations. The study of these formations has great interest for several areas of knowledge, such as Geology, Engineering and Astronomy, among others. Specifically, the study of the lateritic formations can contribute to the comprehension of the regional geomorphological and pedological evolution. In this work, ferruginous laterites from Chapada dos Guimaraes and Campo Verde municipalities (Mato Grosso, Brazil) were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence (EDX) and Mossbauer spectroscopy, in order to obtain information on their chemical and crystalline structure characteristics, as well as to correlate them with their genesis and geomorphological evolution conditions.
