Study Of The Physical-Chemical Properties Of The Moroccan Phosphogypsum: A Review

The phosphoric acid production in the world generates the accumulation of large quantity of an acidic by product called phosphogypsum (PG). Large amount of this PG is rejected without any treatment into the environment, which forms a significant source of contamination in long term. Moroccan PG is principally composed by calcium sulfate, and other impurities like as phosphates, fluoride, organics matters, heavy metals and radioactive elements. This paper reviews the different physical and chemical properties of the Moroccan PG. The comprehension of these properties permits to identify the different polluting agents. In addition, the factors affecting the presence of different kind of impurities in PG are also discussed.
