Abstract
Neurofibromatosis type-1 (NF-1) patients present an increased risk of developing brain tumours, usually hypothalamic and optic path gliomas and low-grade brainstem or cerebellar astrocytomas High-grade gliomas, anaplastic astrocytomas or glioblastomas multiforme (GBM), are less common in NF-1 and are usually located above the tentorium, while an 1% of them are located in the cerebellum. We report a case of a 43-years-old female patient with history of NF-1 that developed a cerebellar glioblastoma and discuss the clinical importance of these lesions, with regards to clinical characteristics and prognosis. It is important to accurately diagnose a high-grade cerebellar glioma in NF-1 patients - especially a GBM - differentiating it from the common occurrences of WHO grade I pilocytic astrocytomas Brain tumours in NF-1 deserve close monitoring for the risk of high-grade gliomas, regardless of location, as they are associated with far worse prognosis and early recurrences.
