Strawberries and blueberries are high-value horticultural species. They are grown in open agricultural land, in high tunnels, in greenhouses, and in all continents. Because of this, they are available to the consumers the year round. They are important in the human diet because of the high content of health-benefitting compounds of their fruit, and they are attractive and taste good. The production of high-quality berries requires high expertise in preparing soil or other growth substrates, including application of mineral nutrients and other important amendments. This is necessary to reduce constraints that can reduce fruit yield, quality, and shelf-life of the berries. This chapter will provide an insight in the present challenges and how they can be handled.
