The developments of communication agent and home appliance automation agent based on intel ACAT

Assistive Context-Aware Toolkit (ACAT) is an open source platform developed by Intel Labs and Dr. Stephen Hawking (who is a famous astrophysicist with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, ALS) to enable people with motor neuron diseases (MND) or other severe disabilities to have full access to the capabilities and applications of their computers through very constrained interfaces suitable for their conditions. What we did in this study is to convert English interface of Intel ACAT to Chinese interface and increase two extra functional agents on Intel ACAT platform, including Communication Agent and Home Appliance Automation Agent. Our purpose is to help the severe disabled in Taiwan get the benefits from Intel ACAT and let them can communicate with other people easier and control the computer or home appliance by themselves more conveniently. Three severe disabled subjects attended the experiments using Intel ACAT with Chinese interface. All subjects are satisfied with the functions and test results of Intel ACAT.
