Abstract
Heat shock protein (HSP) plays an important role in the regulation of cell cycle, control of DNA injury, metabolism of genetic production and cancerization. In the present study, we investigated the expression of heat shock protein (HSP) gp96 in different parts of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and explored the relationship between its expression and formation, development, and prognosis of HCC by using the immunohistochemistry and in situ molecular hybridization technique. The gp96 positive expression with brown particles mostly located in cytosol, but only a little staining in nuclei and no staining in cell membrane. The distribution of positive cells in cancerous tissues had obvious heterogeneity. Total positive rate of HSPgp96 expression was 73.3% in HCC and 46.7% in non-cancerous tissues, respectively (P < 0.05). The higher rates of gp96 expression were found in HCC with lower differentiation, large size, invasion and HBV-DNA positive rate (P < 0.01), but not to tumor number. The analysis of gp96 expression could be used as a molecular marker for diagnosis and prognosis of HCC.
