Abstract
Tourism can be considered by its characteristics, as a vector of globalization, since it promotes the movement of ideas, people, goods and capital worldwide. However, the severity of the economic, environmental and especially social impacts that the development of tourism generates in poor countries is minimized, as their territories, rich in natural resources, are transformed into tourist destinations. The present study attempts to assess, in general terms, the social impact associated with policies and the performance of the tourism sector in Third World Countries.
