Design Of Plane Wave Generator In Compact Range For 5g Ota Testing

For 5G active antenna systems of high frequency and large DUT size, traditional far-field OTA testing requires a great measurement distance, which is hardly to realize. It is preferable to manipulate the electromagnetic fields such that planar wave can be generated in near field range. In this paper, a flexible approach for the synthesis of a planer antenna array to generate planar wave across the DUT within a limited range is discussed. The excitation amplitude and phase of the plane wave generator are optimized using genetic algorithm (GA). Numerical simulations show that magnitude and phase variations of electric field across the transverse plane of the quiet zone is comparable to that of the compact antenna test range (CATR) using reflectors, hence providing an alternative for OTA testing in small-sized chambers.
