Evaluation Of Surgical Treatment For Gastric Cancer In The Upper Portion Of The Stomach Based On A Study Of Lymph Node Metastases

We evaluated a correlation between depth of tumor invasion and lymph node metastases to survey a rational surgical treatment with lymph node dissection of gastric cancers which were located in the upper part of the stomach. Lymph node metastases in the patients with gastric cancer which did not extend beyond muscularis propria (mp) was confined in the group 1 and in the part of the group 2 (station number 7 and 11). Therefore it was suggested that limited surgery was possible for early cancer and mp-cancer with respect to lymph node dissection. For the cancer invading beyond mp, extended lymph node dissection including D4 should be considered.
