Abstract
Optimal terbinafine treatment durations were investigated in two separate double-blind trials in children with tinea capitis. Both studies found terbinafine to be safe, effective, and well tolerated. For infection with Trichophyton species., 2 to 4 weeks provided superior efficacy to 1 week. For Microsporum tinea capitis, 6 weeks was as effective as longer durations. These results suggest terbinafine should allow a reduction in recommended treatment duration compared to griseofulvin, the current standard therapy.
