The Religious Heritage And The Modern Subjectivity

The individual autonomy, the hegemony of reason and the critical overcoming of religion are distinctive characteristics of modern subjectivity. This article shows how the religious heritage of the XVI century prepare the modern turn to subjectivity and remain as constituent part of the subject. There is not opposition between religion and Illustration. Descartes is a key personality for the anthropological twist of Modernity. He approve the religious components of medieval Philosophy and base the autonomy of the cogito in God's idea. The reference to God subsists hidden in the modern conception of humanity. The epistemological priority of cogito keep the ontological primacy -f God. There is no break with the medieval philosophy of the theism.
