Abstract
IntroductionHypertensive disorders are more common in obese pregnant women than in women with normal body mass index. Even when there is a moderate overweight, the occurrence of hypertension and preeclampsia was significantly higher than in pregnant women with a healthy weight. In obese pregnant women, the incidence of hypertension is 2.2 to 21.4 times higher than in those with a healthy weight and preeclampsia occurs preeclampsia occurs 1.22-9.7 times more often.Material and methodsFor collecting the data, we used the Microsoft Excel program. The study was conducted during six years in our clinic, Bega Hospital. We gathered 778 patients from the year 2011 up to the year 2017 who suffer from obesity. The statistical data was processed using the SPSS program.Results and discussionsIn this follow up study we wanted to see if the presence of a high body mass index (BMI) can influence the values of blood pressure during pregnancy. All our patients gain weight more than normally (more than 14 kg in the first 21 weeks). All the patents gave birth in the Bega Hospital between 2011 and 2017. Because of the rapid weight gain they were diagnosed as having obesity level one, two and three, the BMI is between 30 and 46.ConclusionsBased on our study the main conclusion is that a high value of BMI can significantly increase the blood pressure during pregnancy. So, the weight control should be a main concern in the pregnancy period.
