Health Education Intervention Is An Effective Tool For Control Of Dengue Disease In School Children

Background: Dengue disease is a global concern since the Second World War. It is an endemic disease in more than 110 countries. The global prevalence of dengue disease increased in the past few decades and about 3 billion population is at the risk of dengue fever transmission. In 1994, the first dengue case was reported in Pakistan and the first major dengue outbreak occurred in 2006. Afterward, every year dengue cases and deaths reported in different cities of Pakistan.Aim: To assess the effect of educational intervention on knowledge regarding dengue fever among students.Method: A quasi-experimental one group pretest and posttest research design was used. The study was conducted among 80 students. The participants were selected by convenient sampling technique and data was collected by using a structured questionnaire.Results: The overall pretest knowledge mean scores were found to be 1.5100 +/-.7467 whereas in the post-test after health education session the mean knowledge score was 2.1867 +/- 1.3334. The present study calculated p-value was 0.003 that shows significant finding and better improvement was observed after the educational session.Conclusion: The study concluded that students' knowledge" has been improved after educational session. Health education is an effective tool for the control of dengue disease and there is a need for such interventions at large scale.
