Design Of A Mimo Dielectric Resonator Antenna With Air Gap For X-Band Applications

In the present work, a 2x2 MIMO DRA antenna system covering the entire X-band ( 8 to 12 GHz) is developed. The antenna is developed on an RT Duroid substrate with dielectric constant value epsilon(r) = 2.2 having size 66x23 mm(2) and the radiator is a dielectric material of high permittivity value epsilon(r) = 12. A cylindrical air gap is introduced on the radiator to improve the impedance bandwidth and isolation between the antennas. The proposed antenna resonates in the frequency band 6.3 to 12.5 GHz with a wide impedance bandwidth of 66% and with mutual coupling value less than -20 dB in the entire operating band. The developed antenna system covers the entire X-band making it suitable for the applications like satellite, RADAR, motion detectors etc. The gain, correlation coefficient and radiation pattern of the antenna are also presented.
